What is ZigBee?
ZigBee is a technological standard based on IEEE 802.15.4, designed for use in Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) radio bands. This technology enables devices to communicate with each other using low power, allowing batteries to last significantly longer.
Because ZigBee is ideal for low-speed communication, it targets various types of automation systems. One of its key applications is wireless communication within building environments, where frequent battery replacement is impractical.
The diagram below illustrates a simple home automation network using ZigBee technology.
