Category 5 cable, or Cat 5 cable, is a type of UTP cable that carries data at megabit speeds. Compared to Cat 6 cable, it provides lower data transfer and is more susceptible to external interference. However, it's an ideal standard for businesses that don't use heavy data traffic. Cat 5 can provide high performance up to 100MHz. For the data flow to maintain a certain quality, other components used in the system must be at or above the Cat 5 standard, just like the cable.
