PLANET SGSW-2840 is a 24-port 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet switch with 4 Gigabit TP/SFP combo interfaces, featuring a high-performance switching architecture. The SGSW-2840 supports a non-blocking switching fabric and delivers cable speed efficiency up to 12.8 Gbps, greatly simplifying LAN upgrades to meet increasing bandwidth demands. Four built-in GbE uplink ports provide exceptional scalability, flexibility, and connectivity to core switches or servers.
Robust Layer 2 Features
The SGSW-2840 is programmable for essential switch management functions such as port speed configuration, port aggregation, VLAN, Spanning Tree Protocol, QoS, bandwidth control, and IGMP Snooping. It supports IEEE 802.1Q tagged VLANs with up to 256 VLAN groups allowed. Via link aggregation, SGSW-2840 permits high-speed backbone operation by combining multiple ports. Up to 8 ports can be assigned to each of the 8 trunk groups, with failover support included.

PLANET SGSW-2840 is equipped with powerful traffic management and QoS features to enhance services provided by telecommunications. These functions include Layer 4 traffic classifiers and bandwidth limiters useful for multi-tenant units, multi-business units, Telco, or Network Service Providers. It enables enterprises to maximize their limited network resources and guarantees optimal performance for VoIP and video conferencing transmissions.
Efficient IP Stacking Management
The SGSW-2840 supports IP Stacking, allowing network administrators to easily configure up to 36 switches in the same series via a single IP address, instead of connecting and configuring each unit individually. For efficient management, SGSW-2840 comes with console, web, and SNMP management interfaces. With built-in web-based management, it offers an easy-to-use, platform-independent management and configuration experience. It supports the standard Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and can be managed through any standard-based management software. Text-based management is available via Telnet and console ports. Additionally, SGSW-2840 supports SSL and SSH for encrypted packet content during sessions, providing secure remote management.
Strong Security
PLANET SGSW-2840 delivers comprehensive Access Control Lists (ACL) to enforce end-to-end security. The protection mechanisms also include port-based IEEE 802.1x user authentication, Web Authentication user and device verification. Port security effectively limits the number of passing clients, enabling network administrators to create highly secure corporate networks with significantly less time and effort than before.
Flexibility and Expansion Solution
Four mini GBIC slots support 1000Base-SX/LX and WDM SFP (Small Form Factor Pluggable) fiber optic modules. Distances can extend from 550 meters (Multi-Mode fiber cable) up to 10/30/50/70/120 kilometers (Single-Mode fiber or WDM fiber cable). These features make it well suited for enterprise data center and deployment applications.
