Optically separates an RS-232 line from ground loops and voltage surges
A port-powered optical isolator that sits in series with an RS-232 line. It splits the transmit and receive lines and leaves no electrical path between the DTE and DCE sides, so a sustained power surge never travels through to the equipment behind it.
