A port-powered line driver and repeater for point-to-point RS-232 links. It turns single-ended transmission into balanced transmission, holds both ends optically apart and stretches the link out to kilometers.
Interface and connectorsOne port matches EIA RS-232 and CCITT V.24, the other goes to a dedicated 4-core copper cable. The RS-232 side carries a DB9 female connector, the circuit side a DB9 male connector.
Operating modeRuns asynchronous full duplex or simplex traffic.
RangeOver 24 AWG cable it carries data 12 km at 600 bps, 1 km at 38.4 kbps and 100 m at 57.6 kbps.
IsolationHolds the two ends apart at 3500 V (1 s) and 7500 V impulse, and heads off damage from ground loops and surges.
Power inputDraws its power from the RS-232 port and asks for neither an external supply nor a dedicated communication line.
Housing and environmentThe plastic shell weighs 40 g and works across 0% to 95% relative humidity.
